About COMA

COMA (Creative Original Music Adelaide) is a volunteer-run, not-for-profit association dedicated to the presentation of original music in Adelaide, South Australia. It is musician-led, musician-focused and presents a unique opportunity for the creative development and artistic endeavour of a broad range of Australian composers and performers. COMA is committed to presenting and raising the profile of original music in Adelaide, and in Australia.

COMA was formed by a group of Adelaide-based musicians passionate about increasing opportunities in our city for the performance by both emerging and established artists of quality original music from the genres of jazz, improvised music, new classical and electronic.

Since its inception in 2005, COMA has presented ongoing concert series on the first and third Mondays of every month without interruption, as well as additional special events. In 2025 we celebrate 20 years of presentations with over 30 concerts featuring ensembles from Adelaide, across Australia and beyond.

The COMA COMMITTEE

Sam Cagney

Treasurer
Sam is a guitarist, composer and purveyor of bad jokes. He has been a member of the COMA committee since 2010 and has held multiple roles behind the scenes including Artistic Director, Chairperson and Treasurer. On stage you will see him poorly emceeing or playing guitar in the COMA ensemble along with his own and others’ original projects.

Keira Simmons

Chairperson
Keira J. Simmons (she/they) is an emerging South Australian sound artist and sound designer based on unceded Kaurna Land. She creates projects that explore bodily engagement with place and sound, through speculative soundwalking and through performing meditative ambient sets, manipulating field recordings and vocal loops to create absorbing textures. As a freelance sound designer and creative she works with local and global artists on creative projects with a focus on queerness, ecology, and embodied theatrical experiences. In addition to her own creative projects, she is passionate about creating and supporting opportunities for marginalised and underrepresented voices to be heard, both literally (in their work as an audio technician) and systemically (in their role on the COMA committee).

Maeve McLoughlin

Social Media Coordinator
Originally from the Adelaide Hills, Maeve played trombone in her teens, and her participation in Jazz SA Superbands, Adelaide Youth Orchestra and Generations in Jazz encouraged her love of live music and a passion for fostering a thriving music scene in Adelaide. Over the years, she has worked in a number of jazz venues across both Adelaide and Melbourne, and staffed events for The Adelaide Cabaret Festival, Adelaide Fringe Festival and the Melbourne International Jazz festival. Recently returned to Adelaide, Maeve joined the COMA committee in 2017.

Jackie Wilde

General Operations
Jackie is a dedicated music educator and musician with over a decade of experience in both industries. Growing up in Adelaide, she had many opportunities to experience the vast offerings of Adelaide’s live music scene, and cares deeply about its diversity and longevity. During her time studying at the Elder Conservatorium of Music, Jackie attended numerous COMA gigs which lead to her joining the COMA committee in 2015. Since then, she has gained invaluable insights from fellow committee members and currently serves as COMA’s secretary.

Triniti Canini

General Operations
Triniti is a trumpet player and vocalist based in Adelaide, South Australia. While his primary genre focus is Jazz, Triniti is known for his versatility in performing a number of different styles having performed alongside Alan Cummings, the 60 Four and also in original Adelaide ensembles such as Jazz-Fusion group “Fuja” (who recently had their debut album) and Triniti’s own group (varying in size from gig to gig) with his own debut album set to come out this year (2025). Triniti first joined the COMA team as part of an internship adjacent with his university studies at the Elder Conservatorium but now having graduated has since gone on to become a permanent member of the committee, looking forward to helping in building and maintaining a strong and wonderful environment for the creative music scene in Adelaide.

Leah Dobson

General Operations
Leah has been a musician all her life, from singing in the car as a child, to learning piano at primary school, all the way through to finding a passion for jazz singing going into her university studies. She has been a regular at COMA gigs for a number of years, and since joining the COMA committee after an internship opportunity through the University of Adelaide in 2024, she is enjoying working with COMA to facilitate their important work.

Ciara Ferguson

Social Media Coordinator
Ciara is a pianist, singer, composer and educator working in the jazz, cabaret, pop and classical worlds. She was fortunate as a child to attend many COMA gigs watching her dad perform, and now as an adult she loves being part of this warm, imaginative and caring community of music makers and supporters. Ciara was the beneficiary of the 2024 COMA Emerging Jazz Writers Award, and helps with COMA’s social media.

Jasmine Hall

Secretary
Jasmine is trombonist, singer, composer and educator. She has been attending COMA gigs since she was little, and loves that she is still part of the COMA community, but now as a grown-up listener, performer and committee member. In 2019, Jasmine was selected as an Emerging Artist and in 2022, she received the Emerging Jazz Writer’s Award which really expanded her composing horizons. She loves the warm and cosy atmosphere created at COMA gigs and hopes to see you at one soon!
